#datenight in #asahikawa enjoying pristine freshly shucked and steamed Akkeshi oysters from Lake Akan

Kaizoku's steamed clam soup with homemade broth. The clams were large and meaty.

Kaizoku's menu is mainly seafood, but the grilled lamb with chopped jalapeno topping was really good. Succulent and delicious. Had this with their house brand sake.

OMO's Go-Kinjo map lists out all the best places you can try Asahikawa's famous foods like ramen, Genghis Khan BBQ and Shinkoyaki. An OMO ranger is present in the evenings to give recommendations and you can even book a guided food tour. We did this on our first evening, and it was really helpful to get an idea of where the food streets like Furarito, Sanroku were.

Grilled fish and crab for breakfast? Yes please! Ohiso at the Nijo Fish markets is worth waking up early for.

There were a lot of good specials with boards discounted by 20-30%.

They have a waxing service at Murasaki Sports. Guy says that if you buy your snowboard from them you get free base wax forever. Pretty cool.
One of the more popular restaurants in Nijo market. The food at Ohiso was very good and the touch pad ordering system was easy to use.

Murasaki sports in the Parco shopping centre in Sapporo city has every thing a snowboarder could want. Large range of boards, bindings, boots, gear and apparel. Some good discounts in the outlet section. They even have a tuning station.

The Burton Sapporo shop had a display of vintage models showing the evolution of snowboard shapes.

A breakfast Kaisendon at Nijo is one of the best things about ski trips to Japan. This bowl with uni, crab and ikura from Ohiso tasted amazing.

Happiness is a lemon sour and delicious yakitori at Yakitori Kushidori! Pork belly and chicken skin FTW!!

Shihachi Sapporo serves some of the freshest sashimi grade fish in town, and specialises in seafood bowls. The bowls are beautifully presented, almost like a parfait. They make their own special soy sauce. This is the fresh salmon, scallop, and salmon roe kaisen don.

Check out the size of this grilled Hokkaido scallop from the Japanese menu. 😮😮😮 So fresh! oishi!

Shihachi was started by a seafood distributor. Their Comichi laneway store in Tanuki Koji has a little seafood market on the side of their modern eatery. I ordered the 10 kinds of seafood bowl and it came overflowing with toppings. The pieces were big & chunky, different than on kaisendons i have had before. Slight challenge to eat but every piece is so fresh and bursting with flavour you just get lost in the moment. Don't worry Shihachi provides instructions on how to best enjoy your meal. TIP! The Japanese menu has a lot more dishes including grilled seafood, crab croquettes and a selection of sake.

The ultra modern pod at Torifito. It was more like a mini room. you had space to stretch, had a table, television and under bed lock up storage. Because its a capsule hotel they were no locks on the sliding doors.

The snow in Sahoro is very good and did not kill me when i fell a thousand times while snowboarding!!

Was surprised to see soup curry on Steamboat's menu, but it was actually quite terrible. Lacked spice and taste.
