There is a Salomon Station at the Prince hotel where you can rent skis, snowboards and outerwear. They have a large range and you can pay a bit more for premiium goods. They also do hot machine waxing for 3000 Yen and will have your board ready by 8am.
The shop at the Prince Shizukuishi was well stocked with a large selection of drinks, desserts, cup noodles and nibbles. There is even microwave rice, canned food and curries for meals. I do like how Prince hotels charge normal and not "resort prices".
Restaurant Alyeska at the Summit station has a few menu items I haven't seen at other resorts. This is the hamburger omelette rice with 2 sauces demiglace and cream. Its very tasty and sizable enough to make one contemplate taking the ropeway down to the hotel room for a food induced nap.
The Shizukuishi Powder Cat Tour brings you to the top of the gondola station at Kotakakura yama, a now closed part of the ski resort. Our group lucked out with the weather, arriving at the top with clear skies and a few days accumulation of pristine powder. Snowboarding through untracked powder was pure bliss and the 3km ride was over too quickly.
You can take the shuttle bus to Shizukuishi Prince Hotel from level 2 of the Morioka station West exit shuttle bus terminal. Stand 26. Only for guests staying at the hotel and you have to book ahead.
Double sausage roll was good too. Much more substantial than the kombini version.
The recommended corned beef and egg sandwich. Hit the spot for breakfast.
Fukuda Pan's main shop is about 10 minutes walk from the station. Took a little longer as the pavement was iced up. Worth it because each roll is made to order here and they have an extensive menu.
The snowboard range. Xebio has international and Japanese models. Look out for the ones with "Made in Japan" stickers from Yonex and White Blossome.
Supersports Xebio is a massive sports megamall in Motomiya Morioka. During Winter they have lots of winter sports gear and quite a few discounts.
Save some space for Chi tan tan. You crack an egg into remaining noodles and the shop will add broth to make a soup. Season it to your taste with the provided condiments.
You can outfit your groms here, They have kids specific boards from Salomon, Head and Burton, outerwear and accesories.
Pairon is one of the best places to try Jajamen one of the 3 great Noodles of Morioka. They have a shop in the basement of Fesan mall connected to Morioka station. This was a regular serving and it was huge.
Murasaki Sports Morioka board store is in the Aeon Mall Minami. (There are 2 Aeons in Morioka). They have a selection of snowboarding hardware and apparel. It is a small shop, so don't expect the same range you find in the stores in the bigger cities. The shop also does waxing and tuning.
The shop has all the backcountry gear you need with backpacks, snow shoes, shovels, beacons.
The powder ski section with gear from Blizzard, Vector Glide and Atomic.
Ishii Sports is located in Morioka's Odori shopping street in the Moss Build building. Sorry boarders, it is a ski gear specialist. They have walls of skis and also a huge range of mountain climbing and camping gear.
